10/29 – “Dogs with Old Man Faces” and then “Old Dog Haven: Every Old Dog Has A Story”

Today’s theme: OLD DOGS!!!

Talking with two authors today.  First, Tom Cohen, author of “Dogs with Old Man Faces”, celebrating dogs with ‘old souls’. Daytime Emmy Award winner, Tom Cohen, the executive producer of “Cash Cab,” was inspired to write Dogs with Old Man Faces: Portraits of Crotchety Canines, from his own dog, Piper, a 6-year-old Shih Tzu with an old man face. She has a specific face he likes to call ‘Peter Falk’ Face, because she somehow makes it look like his – kind of a smirk and an expression of, ‘I’ve been around the block’, says Cohen. He started noticing that kind of dog face everywhere he went. So he grabbed his camera and started snapping shots wherever he saw a dog that was channeling his inner old man face: on the streets of Manhattan, sitting outside a Starbucks, at the dog park – everywhere. Sadly, Piper didn’t make the book. There were just too many other dogs with amazing faces, the competition was stiff.

Cohen hopes, Dogs with Old Man Faces will inspire an appreciation of older dogs. Look into an older dog’s eyes and they look back at you with what is instantly recognizable as the equivalent of decades of experience. Please let me know if you would like to schedule a time to chat with Tom Cohen about this book and these heartwarming photos with humorous captions, sure to make anyone laugh and love their old dogs even more.

Then host, Julie Forbes talks with Ardeth De Vries, President of the Board of Old Dog Haven, a non-profit that is a large network of foster homes that gets old dogs out of shelters!  www.olddoghaven.org
