This brings up some questions about service dog welfare and an opportunity to educate. We all ask… “WHAT ABOUT THE DOG?”

Check out the new website! www.dogradioshow.com One of the options on the Contact page is to submit a question that you’d like host and dog training and behavior expert Julie Forbes to answer on-air. We received a submission from a listener in Utah who’s elderly mothers two chihuahuas are attacking each other. This behavior is set of, in part, by the clicking of the brakes on the woman’s walker. On today’s show, Julie talks with Jennifer, the daughter who reached out, and evaluates the dogs over the phone. Jennifer has sent videos of the dogs acting out, so even though they are in Utah, Julie has gotten to see the behavior. Gotta love technology! This conversation will be jam-packed with information that will serve people who are struggling with all sorts of behavioral challenges with their dogs.

This summer, host Julie Forbes was waiting for a friend to finish up a work phone call in Seattle before they went out to dinner.  To kill time, she started talking to people who walked by with dogs and handed out The Dog Show with Julie Forbes car stickers.  Up the street walked two women with their three shihtzus.  Julie immediately noticed something was wrong with one of them and asked about her.  After hearing about her terminal diagnosis, Julie pleaded with them to get in touch with brilliant holistic veterinarian Dr. Donna Kelleher (www.wholepetvet.com).  They did… and the dog is almost fully recovered!  Listen to this important and wonderful story about this family’s journey to recovery through natural medicine.  Don’t underestimate the body’s ability to heal!

Do dogs have souls?  Do dogs go to heaven?  What does that mean?  I don’t know about the idea of heaven/hell, but I do believe that dogs have souls – and so does Chaplain Mike Neil, who has researched this question coming from his perspective as a deeply religious man.  This is an important question, regardless of your religious beliefs.  You can learn more about Mike Neil on www.mdneil.com

Host and expert in dog behavior and training, Julie Forbes, shares her experience coaching people, mostly women, over the last twelve years in how to effectively communicate with their dogs using their bodies and “non-verbal communication.” A lot comes up within this context, because asking a woman to be more assertive or to have “bigger energy” and take up more space, isn’t something to take for granted given our history and cultural conditioning. Could learning how to communicate like a dog give women access to freedom and healing?
